Working in Welwyn Garden City
We cover every part of Welwyn Garden City, including AL7 and AL8, and nearby Hatfield (2.8 miles) and Hertford (5.5 miles).
Homes in and around Welwyn Garden City vary, so we look at the floor, the walls and the water system before we price anything. We measure small bathrooms in Welwyn Garden City to the centimetre before quoting, because 50 mm can decide whether a larger tray fits. If nobody in your Welwyn Garden City home has used the bath in years, we can price a walk-in shower layout next to a shorter bath so you can compare.
Water across much of Hertfordshire is very hard. We plan easy-clean glass, rimless toilets and finishes that do not show limescale. Hardness varies street by street, so check the figure for your postcode with your water supplier.
What the job includes
- Two or three layout options, each priced, so you can compare keeping the bath with a walk-in shower
- Space-saving sanitaryware: a short-projection or wall-hung WC and a compact or semi-recessed basin
- Shorter, narrower or shower baths where a full 1700 mm bath does not sit well
- Recessed niches, mirror cabinets and wall-hung vanity units to get storage off the floor
Decisions to make first
Tiles and grout
Larger tiles with a grout close to the tile colour make walls look calmer. Running the same floor tile into the shower makes the floor look continuous.
Door
Re-hanging the door to open outwards, or fitting a sliding door, frees the space behind it. In a very small room this alone can make space for a bigger shower.
Rules that apply in England
In England, changes to the wiring in a room with a bath or shower are notifiable under Part P, so use an electrician registered with a competent person scheme. If you replace the extractor fan, do not fit one that extracts less than the old one; Approved Document F gives 15 litres per second for an intermittent bathroom fan.
