Working in Smethwick

We work right across Smethwick — B21, B66 and B67 — and in neighbouring West Bromwich and Birmingham.

In Smethwick, as anywhere, the age of the house decides a lot: pipe sizes, floor construction and where the soil stack runs. If your Smethwick home runs on a combi boiler or an unvented cylinder, we check your chosen shower valve suits it before fitting. If you have bought a suite and need it fitted in Smethwick, we check the product list before booking so the job is not held up by a missing part.

Supplies across the West Midlands range from soft to hard depending on the source. Easy-clean glass and good-quality brassware are money well spent. Hardness varies street by street, so check the figure for your postcode with your water supplier.

What the job includes

First and second-fix plumbing: supplies, wastes, isolation valves and the connection to the soil stack
Fitting the suite, furniture, screen and accessories, then silicone, testing and a clean handover
A survey of the room, the supplies and drainage, and the products you plan to use
Strip-out of the old suite and tiles, and removal of the waste

Decisions to make first

Same layout or new

Keeping the layout keeps labour in the £2,200 to £4,000 range; moving the WC, shower or basin adds pipework and days.

Tiling

Some customers tile themselves or use a separate tiler. That can work, but the order of trades and who tanks the shower area must be agreed first.

Rules that apply in England

In England, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 apply to the products you supply as well as to the installation. Electrical changes such as new lights or a fan are notifiable under Part P and are done by a registered electrician or notified to building control. New drainage or a new connection to the soil stack can be Part H work.

Who handles building control for bathroom fitting in Smethwick?

Building control for Smethwick is handled by the local council or an approved inspector. If your job needs sign-off — for example a new circuit, new drainage or a new extractor where there was none — we tell you at the survey and handle the notification as part of the work.

Will you fit a bathroom suite I bought online?

Yes. Send us the product list or links before the survey, and we will check sizes, wastes, valves and the cistern type against your room and plumbing. Missing or mismatched parts cause most fit-only delays, and they are far easier to sort before the start date than halfway through.
