Working in Newmarket
As well as Newmarket itself (CB8), we survey in Haverhill, Ely and Cambridge.
Newmarket gets the same process as anywhere else: a free survey at your home and a written, itemised quote. If you have young children at home in Newmarket, we can talk through a bath that is easy to lean over, a slip-resistant floor and high-level storage. Whether your Newmarket bathroom is a narrow galley or a square main room, we show you whether a separate shower would fit before you decide.
Supplies across most of Cambridgeshire are very hard. We plan easy-clean glass, rimless toilets and finishes that do not show limescale. Hardness varies street by street, so check the figure for your postcode with your water supplier.
What the job includes
- A free home survey covering room sizes, the soil stack position, your boiler or cylinder type and water pressure
- Wall and floor tiling, with a floor finish chosen to grip under wet feet
- Supply of the bath, basin, WC, brassware, shower, screen, tiles and heated towel rail
- Moisture-resistant boarding and tanking around the bath and shower before any tiling
Decisions to make first
Bath material
Reinforced acrylic is warm to the touch and light on the floor. Steel enamel is harder-wearing and feels more solid, but it draws heat from the water faster.
Shower over the bath or separate
A shower over the bath with a fixed or hinged screen is the most space-efficient. A separate enclosure needs roughly another square metre of floor but means the bath queue no longer holds up the shower queue.
Rules that apply in England
In England, any new circuit, or any change to the wiring in a room with a bath or shower, is notifiable under Part P. Part G limits the hot water at a new bath to 48 °C only in a new dwelling or one created by change of use; it does not apply to a replacement bath in an existing house, but a thermostatic valve is a sensible choice where children bathe.
