Working in March
In March we cover PE15; we also cover Wisbech, 8.5 miles away, and Ely.
Being a smaller town does not change how we work in March: free survey, written quote, one team. For homes in March where the bathroom is the only one, we plan the work so the toilet is out of action for as short a time as possible. Whether your March bathroom is a compact box room or a larger main bathroom, the layout starts from measurements taken on site.
Supplies across most of Cambridgeshire are very hard. We plan easy-clean glass, rimless toilets and finishes that do not show limescale. Hardness varies street by street, so check the figure for your postcode with your water supplier.
What the job includes
- Strip-out of the old bathroom and removal of the waste
- Supply of the suite, fitted furniture, worktop, brassware, tiles and accessories
- Electrical work by a qualified electrician: lighting, extractor fan, shaver socket or heating, tested and certified
- Fitting of the furniture, worktop, sanitaryware and glass, then silicone, testing and a clean handover
Decisions to make first
Wall-hung or floor-standing
Wall-hung units show more floor and look lighter; floor-standing units give more storage and suit uneven walls.
Heating
A heated towel rail is standard. Electric underfloor heating under the tiles makes the room comfortable and dries the floor quickly.
Rules that apply in England
In England, new circuits and most electrical changes in a bathroom are notifiable under Part P, so they must be done by an electrician registered with a competent person scheme or notified to building control. If you are adding a new extractor fan, Approved Document F gives 15 litres per second as the usual intermittent extract rate.
