Working in March

As well as March itself (PE15), we survey in Wisbech, Ely and Peterborough.

March gets the same process as anywhere else: a free survey at your home and a written, itemised quote. If the shower in your March home swings between hot and cold, a thermostatic valve is usually the fix. If you are replacing a failed electric shower in March, we check whether the existing cable and circuit suit the new unit.

Most of Cambridgeshire has very hard water. If your supply in March is the same, limescale on shower glass and heads is a real issue: easy-clean glass, rub-clean nozzles and a squeegee make a big difference. Hardness varies street by street, so check the figure for your postcode with your water supplier.

What the job includes

  • A bath screen, tray or enclosure where the shower is new
  • New pipework and isolation valves, plus a pump only where the system is gravity-fed from a cold tank
  • For an electric shower, a check of the consumer unit and whether a new dedicated circuit is needed
  • Removal of the old shower, a full-flow test and a handover on isolating and descaling it

Decisions to make first

Head and handset

A handset on a riser rail is versatile and easy for rinsing; a fixed overhead head feels generous but needs strong flow behind it.

Power shower

A mixer with a built-in pump, for tank-fed systems only. It lifts a weak gravity shower but must never be connected to the mains.

Rules that apply in England

In England, an electric shower usually needs its own dedicated circuit, often 40 to 45 amps for an 8.5 to 10.5 kW unit, and a new circuit is notifiable under Part P. The Part G limit of 48 °C applies to a new bath in a new dwelling or one created by change of use, not to a shower, but a thermostatic valve gives similar protection. An unvented cylinder fitted to improve the shower must be installed by a G3-qualified installer.

Shower installation in March: questions

How much does a new shower cost in March?

A new shower in March usually costs £500–£3,700 including VAT. Where you land in that range depends on the size of the room, whether the layout changes and the products you choose. After the free survey you get an itemised written quote, and the price is fixed in writing once the layout and products are agreed.

Do you cover PE15 in March?

Yes. We cover all of March, including PE15, and nearby Wisbech, Ely and Peterborough. Survey visits are free and arranged at a time that suits you.

Is the water hard in March?

Most of Cambridgeshire has very hard water. If your supply in March is the same, limescale on shower glass and heads is a real issue: easy-clean glass, rub-clean nozzles and a squeegee make a big difference. Hardness varies street by street, so check the figure for your postcode with your water supplier.

Who handles building control for a new shower in March?

Building control for March is handled by the local council or an approved inspector. If your job needs sign-off — for example a new circuit, new drainage or a new extractor where there was none — we tell you at the survey and handle the notification as part of the work.

What is a digital shower?

A digital shower has a control panel on the wall and a mixing valve hidden in a loft, cupboard or behind a panel. You set the exact temperature and flow, and some models can be started remotely. It needs an electrical supply, and versions are made for both mains-pressure and gravity systems.
